JOHN EDWARDS WINS STAR MAZDA RACE 2 AT MAZDA GRAND PRIX OF
PORTLAND – BECOMES FIRST REPEAT RACE WINNER OF 2008 SEASON

Portland, Oregon (July 27, 2008) -- John Edwards, winner of Round 2 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Miller Motorsports Park, repeated the feat with a freight-train run from the front row in Star Mazda Race 2 / Round 5 this Sunday at the Mazda Grand Prix of Portland. Finishing 2nd was Saturday race winner and Sunday pole-sitter Tom Gladdis, followed by Round 1 winner Joel Miller. The top-finishing Expert Series driver, scoring his fourth class victory of the season and second win of the weekend was Vancouver, B.C. native Chris Cumming. Leading the Master Series drivers across the finish line was 3-time winner, Californian Chuck Hulse.

After a disastrous start to the weekend that saw the clutch on his car fail on the first lap of Race 1 on Saturday, forcing him to limp around to a twenty-sixth place finish, Edwards (#7 AIM Autosport Mazda) turned a terrible weekend into a great one, starting from the outside of the front row – as he did in Race 1 -- leading every lap and regaining the lead in the points championship as he crossed the finish line in first place.

-- A PAIR OF POLES FOR GLADDIS --
STAR MAZDA QUALIFYING 2 AT THE MAZDA GRAND PRIX OF PORTLAND

Tom Gladdis, the 17 year-old racer from the English territory of Gibraltar, scored his second consecutive Star Mazda Championship pole for this afternoon's Round 5 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. This is the first of two Star Mazda events being held at the Mazda Grand Prix of Portland, and his lap of 1:08.722 (103.565 mph) in the #5 Andersen Racing / Law firm of Marrache & Co. / Allied Building Products
places him on the inside of the front row for the spectacular standing start that is a new feature of Star Mazda Championship races for 2008. Starting next to him, as he did in Race 1 on Saturday, will be Miller Motorsports Park winner John Edwards (#7 AIM Autosport Mazda) with a lap of 1:09.001 (103.146 mph). Slotting in third on the grid is Charles Hall (#77 Andersen Racing / Blimpie / AccentBanking.com/Pardoes Solicitors / Allied Building Products Mazda) with a time of 109.151 (102.923 mph).

"The cloud cover didn’t' really make any difference to the track or grip, but the engines do seem to run a little stronger when the temperature is lower," said Gladdis. "I'm delighted to be on pole for the second race as well because this series rewards consistency and that's what the team has been working so hard on. We've been in the top-5 pretty much throughout the season, and its all starting to come together. Its going to be a tight race, like the race yesterday, but I think we're in with a good chance. My thanks to the Andersen Racing team and all my sponsors."
