There are so many words that can describe the last Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires weekend. Intense, dramatic, chaotic, unbelievable, amazing, etc. It really was a weekend no one could have predicted. In the end we came out on top. I won the 2014 Pro Mazda Driver’s Championship and we won the Team Championship for Juncos Racing. It wasn’t as easy as it sounds….

When you think of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, you automatically think of the famous Indianapolis 500, "the greatest spectacle in racing." So you can only imagine my excitement when I knew that the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires would be racing at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

After about a month off the Pro Mazda Championship was back in action in Houston, Texas at a street course built in the parking lot of NRG Stadium. We were coming off a difficult month of May; we had great pace at the Indianapolis Grand Prix and the Night Before the 500 at Lucas Oil Raceway but only came away with one podium due to some bad luck. The entire Juncos Racing team was ready to bounce back in Houston.

For my team, Andretti Autosport, and myself as a driver in Pro Mazda, we had plenty of positives and a few not-so-great things about our month of May in Indianapolis.

This probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone, but I’m beyond thrilled to have scored Andretti Autosport’s first Pro Mazda win of the season at the Night Before the 500!

Last week we traveled south to Birmingham, Ala., for the second round of the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. Barber Motorsports Park is one of my favorite tracks. There are so many different types of corners with lots of elevation changes and blind sections.

Part of being a race car driver is the willingness to put yourself out there, not only on the track but off it. I mean, we're competitors – we want to stand out in our own unique way. At least, I sure do!

Going to St. Petersburg on race weekend was different from going to Houston or the Cooper Tires Winterfest at New Orleans Motorsports Park and Barber Motorsports Park. This is simply because it was the opening round of the 2014 Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. It was more exciting; more was at stake as you're hoping to start the season strong and carry that momentum for the rest of the season.

Although the Mazda Road to Indy (Pro Mazda division) 2013 season finished back in early October, that doesn't stop everyone from doing some winter testing to get a head start for preparations for the 2014 season in March. I myself booked a two-day test with World Speed Motorsports at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, California.

My love for racing started when my father first opened the Subic Le Mans fun kart track around 1995. For as long as I can remember, my brother Mark and I would spend hours at the karting track and drive hundreds of laps a day. We would never get sick of it, and no one could keep us off the track.

The past few weeks have been very busy with travel and trying to prepare for the 2014 season. It started in Sonoma, California where I was doing some driver instructing for a Cadillac customer program. After three days of riding in the passenger seat I was ready to do some driving of my own. From California I flew to Birmingham, Alabama for the Chris Griffis Memorial test at Barber Motorsports Park. We are planning on another season in the Cooper Tires Pro Mazda Championship with the goal of winning it! I joined Juncos Racing for the two-day test and actually grew up driving go-karts for the team owner, Ricardo Juncos, for three years when I was 10 years old. We won a lot of races and championships together so it was great to work with them again.
